Source favicon21:11 Cast pearls before swine » English - The Real Deal

A bus stops and two Italian men get on. They sit down and engage in an animated conversation. The lady sitting behind them ignores them at first, but her attention is galvanized when she hears one of the men say the following:

"Emma come first. Den I come. Den two asses come together. I come once-a-more. Two asses, they come together again. I come again and pee twice. Then I come one lasta time."

"You foul-mouthed sex-obsessed swine," retorted the lady indignantly. "In this country, we don't speak aloud in public places about our sex lives......"

"Hey, coola down lady," said the man. "Who talkin' abouta sexa? I'm a justa tellin' my frienda how to spella 'Mississippi'."

If you live in the Fang Zhuang area of Beijing, and you own a dog you better BEWARE! According to today's Legal Mirror, in the past two days 10 dogs have died of alleged poisoning in the courtyard of a residential area in Fang Zhuang. Cops are already on the case. Investigators and common people agree that some twisted psychopath may be behind the serial killings. Eye witnesses reported that pieces of meat were left in a yard heavily frequented by dogs and their owners. After wolfing down the treats, the dogs fell ill and some of them died. The sudden loss of their beloved puppies has left owners distraught and desperate. But the community is already reacting: notices have been plastered to walls, red-band nannies are on high-alert status and dog owners have already equipped their dogs with ...er... surgical masks to prevent them from eating anything while roaming outside. Danwei will keep you informed about the developments of the investigation.

Domestic protests, mainly directed at local policies and officials, have grown violent over the past year, posing increasing challenges to China's internal security forces. The number of these incidents in 2004 reached an all-time high of at least 58,000, according to official Chinese estimates. The rising number of protests reflects growing popular dissatisfaction with official behavior related to property rights and forced relocations, labor rights, pensions, corruption, and political reforms.

China introduced "peaceful rise," a new term to describe China's emergence. Although China's leaders themselves spoke of "peaceful rise" when it first appeared, they quickly withdrew the term – apparently reflecting unresolved internal debate over whether or not the term itself was too unsettling to the region or, for some, too soft. Elements of that debate continue to appear in the Chinese press and professional journals. Nevertheless, China's leaders continue to highlight peaceful themes to describe its rise.

China used diplomatic pressures and verbal warnings to try (unsuccessfully) to derail Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian's re-election in March 2004. Beijing sought to preempt Chen's May 20 inaugural address by issuing a statement on May 17 warning of the consequences of Taiwan's "pursuit of a separatist agenda."

Internal Unrest. Party leaders have relaxed their grip on the economic sphere and now allow greater public discourse on some issues, but continue to repress any challenges to their monopoly on political power. As documented in the latest U.S. Department of State report on human rights, independent trade and labor unions are suppressed, ethnic-Tibetan and Uighur minorities are repressed, and religious groups continue to face harassment. Since 1999, as many as 2,000 adherents of the spiritual movement F* Gong have died in prison from torture, abuse, or neglect. By suppressing the sort of civil society that can provide stability in crises, the Party has become less susceptible to small impacts but remains vulnerable to larger perturbations.

Source favicon12:30 大鸟传说 » Blog on 27th Floor

Phoenix(不死鸟)(来自传说时代

If you track information on a batch of discrete topics all the time like I do, managing your inbox is no day at the beach. Monitoring a number of mailing lists for interesting news on, say, [harry potter] or [sony aibo] or [housing bubble] without actually subscribing to what could be hundreds of mailing lists is a daunting task. (And remember, Google Groups also encompasses Usenet groups - even more messages to scan!) There hasn't been an easy way to achieve this in Google Groups except for periodically searching for a given topic to see if there are any new and interesting posts.

Some of us thought it would be cool to offer a feature that does this work for us. Whenever we start thinking like this, it's usually followed by a new product - and that has led to our latest Alerts offering, a beta version of Google Groups Alerts. It monitors the top 50 most recent Google Groups search results that relate to keywords you're interested in. Any new articles posted that match your criteria will be emailed to you, just like Google News alerts. The ideal candidates for Groups Alerts are those that might be discussed in multiple discussion groups. Give it a try and see if you don't save time - and stay current.
