Web 2.0是什么呢?这个到目前为止好像还没有个确切的定义,似乎是“只可意会,不可言传”,每个人用自己的语言给Web 2.0下定义,什么可写的互联网、自主的互联网、可编程的互联网等,并列出一大堆服务和网站(blog,del.icio.us, filckr等),然后说这些就是Web 2.0。

这让我想起一个笑话来:我大学毕业后工作的第一家公司是面向日本的软件开发公司,公司招聘了一部分日语专业的毕业生来开发软件。在一次的技术培训会上,负责翻译的一位同事是这样翻译其中一句话的,“按键盘上最长的那个键”。

微软刚发布了Windows Live,盖茨自己都说这是微软软件战略的突变。透过Webleon的Microsoft Live全景图不难发现,那这个Live是什么?不就是“可写的互联网、自主的互联网、可编程的互联网”吗?微软将来的Live策略就是基于Web 2.0的!就像当初微软用Feed代替RSS这个词,这次微软选了Live这次词来描述Web 2.0,很形象、很生动!虽然我讨厌微软的垄断主义,但我还是非常欣赏微软的战略眼光,一眼看透未来的趋势!我也觉得“空格键”比“键盘上最长的那个键”要好,你呢?

看来当初我选Live+Business做LiveBiz.cn|活力商务的域名也算和盖茨英雄所见略同了:),当然,盖茨的野心比较大一点,而LiveBiz.cn|活力商务只是要努力建造一个活力的、专业的、自主的、开放的企业和专业人士的互联网服务平台。

豆瓣的用户增加很快。我们的服务器需要增加内存了。今天下午5-6点豆瓣的服务会有小段时间中断。 如果顺利,应该不到5分钟。希望不会给大家带来太多不便。 [19:10pm 更新] 结果用了一个小时。:( 要是你对技术有兴趣: 内存没有问题。但是没注意到linux内核需要重新编译(cpu/high memory 参数)才能使用多出的RAM来。浪费了一些时间把内存条换来换去检查。 升级以后停用了virtual memory。这样应该能防止在后台运行数据挖掘程序的时候系统swapping, 使网站的访问响应速度变慢。服务器的确不应该用VM。 要是你对技术没兴趣: 豆瓣网页的响应速度应该比较一致了。“和我口味最像的人”以前一天更新一次,现在可以一天更新多次了。

The China Daily reports:
Top foreign brands sue Silk Street market

Beijing's Silk Street market, a bustling bazaar of broken-English bargaining and brand-name knock-offs, is in hot legal water.

Five world famous brands, Gucci, Chanel, Burberry, Prada and Louis Vuitton, are jointly suing the market operator, Beijing Xiushui Haosen Clothing Market Company, and five stalls, for selling fake products. They are claiming 2.5 million yuan (US$310,000) in compensation.

"Though the market operator had promised to weed out counterfeit goods in the market, it failed to keep these knock-offs out," said the plaintiff's lawyer Gao Hualin. "The company takes no measures to fight against counterfeiting, and facilitates stalls in selling fake brands."

Xinhua has reported another intellectual property case in which a long standing Beijing institution is being sued:

Three designers, who lost out in a competition to design a logo for Beijing's Palace Museum, have taken the museum to court.

Zhu Yanyue from Anhui, Hong Qingqi from Fujian, and Xiang Baiping from Shaanxi are suing for a combined total of 130,000 yuan (US$16,100). They all say the Palace Museum's new logo bears an uncanny resemblance to their own designs, rejected by the museum a year ago.

Xinhua has also published an article titled "Chinese official appeals to treat China's IP protection objectively":

A top Chinese official in charge of intellectual property (IP) protection appealed Wednesday to treat China's IP protection with an objective and developmental view.

"China has taken a string of strong measures and has made significant progress in IP protection in recent years," said Zhang Zhigang, director of the Office for the National Working Group on IP Protection under the State Council, China's cabinet."

Well, alright then.

先在自己的AdSense帐号中以多个搜索引擎来源命名不同的channel中,
然后在自己的页面发布过程中根据referer投放不同的Channel广告

从而得出了不同搜索引擎来源的点击量和点击率统计。

明显:越是高端用户对广告点击率越低
BlogLines < Google < RSS < Yahoo < MSN < AOL

但总体收入上仍然是是Google的来源最高,因为其使用量超过第2位的Yahoo! 4倍左右。

I've been working on the personalized homepage from Victoria, B.C., and I've never been psyched to have to sign in to the U.S. version every morning. While Seattle's pretty close, I'd prefer to have the actual weather for Victoria -- and have it in Celsius. Now I can, because today we expanded the personalized homepage to 16 new regions: Australia, Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, UK, and ahem, Canada.



Now I can enjoy my morning Timbits with a Google homepage -- Canadian-style.

Shicha Hai (or Shicha Lake, usually referred to as 'Hou Hai" by Beijing residents) is a historical site in Beijing. It lies at the center of the city, and includes three lakes, Prince Gong's Mansion and many hutongs. After SARS in 2002, the area became a popular bar and pub destination, esepcially for xiaozi people (white collars) in Beijing.

Yesterday, the Neighborhood Committee of Shicha Hai launched its new logo to public. The concept of logo design is from green jade which is related to the color of lake and Chinese culture. The logo includes both English and Chinese. The Chinese was written by calligrapher Yang Xuanting, and the English by Chinese- born American member of CPPCC (China People's Political Consultative Conference) Sha Boli.

'Image Projects' have become popular in Beijing after the first 'street logo' for Wangfujing was launched in 1999. Many residential compounds have also set up their own visual identities.

Literally是literal的副词形式。既然literal表示“字面意义的,完全按原文的”,literally当然就是“按字面理解”的意思。这看起来似乎天经地义。问题是,母语者经常说出这样的话: He was so angry he literally exploded. The music was so powerful it literally blew me away. 这是怎么回事?一个人再生气也不可能真的爆炸,音乐再震撼也不可能真的把人吹走。如果literally是“按字面理解”,这些句子岂不自相矛盾? 事实上,很多人的确认为这样的句子是自相矛盾的。Literally在这些句子里恰恰不可以按字面理解,是典型的误用。在美国甚至有条不成文的规矩:谁要是滥用literally来加强语气、描述不可以按字面意思理解的事,谁就缺乏常识,可以被狠狠嘲笑一番。 虽然我也是个很吹毛求疵的人,但我对literally的这种用法并不特别反感。我的观点一向是:really和literally类似,也经常用来描述夸张的、非真实的事。如果really可以通行无阻,凭什么literally遭到那么多非议? 举个例子:Jay Chou’s new album is finally released. I’m really dying to hear it. (周杰伦的新专辑终于发行了。我真是迫不及待想听一下。)很显然,我并不是真死,只是强调自己有多么想听而已。为什么没有人跳出来挑刺,说really不可以这样用,因为我还好好活着? 查了一下牛津词典,发觉其实根本不需要通过really来替literally辩护。除了“按字面,字面上”和“真正地,确实地”之外,literally的第三种定义就是:used to emphasize a word or phrase that is being used in a figurative way,(加强比喻用法)简直。给出的例句是:I literally jumped out of my skin. (我简直给吓了一大跳。) 很显然,我不可能跳出自己的皮肤,literally在这里只是起强调作用,不表示“按字面理解”。换句话说,用literally描述不能按字面理解的事是可以的。不是这样说话的人不懂常识,而是嘲笑这样说话的人对literally的理解过于片面。 当然,又可以按字面理解,又可以不按字面理解,两种用法颇为矛盾,难免让人困惑。但英语中这样的单词绝不只有literally一个。我能想到的典型就是scan。它既有细看、端详的意思(He scanned her face anxiously.),又有粗看、浏览的意思(I scanned [...]
