從WebLeOn那邊得知,del.icio.us推出了del.icio.us Firefox Toolbar。 Toolbar中最特別的就是那個「about this page」功能,讓我們得知一個網頁在del.icio.us被Bookmark的情況。 ...

Source favicon18:32 No, Deng Xiaoping is not on the 500-yuan » Danwei RSS 2.0
To get rich is glorious. It's going to be briefcases full of Mao-notes for a while longer - the People's Bank of China has denied rumors that it was preparing to issue a new note containing Deng Xiaoping's image. The image here, obviously a digital mockup, had been posted to online messageboards with the message that the central bank had decided to issue a 500-yuan note as part of its 6th series or RMB notes. It seems appropriate for the architect of China's market reforms to be worth more than the Great Helmsman, but unfortunately the central bank feels that the time is not right - a higher denomination would feed fears of inflation (never mind that 100 yuan no longer buys what it did in 1987). And the final note of the 5th RMB series, the green 1-yuan, was just issued last year, so it's a bit early for a 6th series. Will the rumor die? Probably not, since apparently no one listened to the explanations when the Deng-note circulated on message boards last December. None of the articles reporting on this latest instance make mention of the earlier Beijing Times investigation. Look for it to pop up again some time next winter.

1. explosion: an explosion, or a sudden rush of air caused by an explosion.

6. good time: an enjoyable occasion of fun and laughter  ( slang )

Jay's wedding was so much fun! We came up with all sorts of "dirty" games for the newlyweds, and everybody had a blast. (Jay

值得注意的是,“We had a blast!” 我的一贯做法是,在可能误会的情况下,干脆不用blast(改用bombing或者a lot of fun)。

A: We had a blast last night!
B: Good for you!
A: What are you talking about? We had a blast, literally!
B: Oops, I'm sorry.

We're in the middle of a heat wave here in Beijing, and there's nothing so refreshing as kicking back with a cold one. So it's not exactly welcome news to learn that 95% of China's domestically-produced beer contains formaldehyde, much of it exceeding the national standard of 0.2ppm by up to six times. This is not entirely a new revelation, however. Two years ago the Shenzhen-based company that produces Kingway beer started advertising that its product was the first domestic beer to be formaldehyde-free, which led other brewers claim to have dropped formaldehyde years before. This may be true for major breweries, but for the vast majority of local Chinese beers, formaldehyde is a low-cost way to improve the color and shorten the brewing time of cheap beer. According to the Global Times investigation, brewers' claims of being "formaldehyde-free" usually only applies a few of their products. An industry insider says, "Upper-shelf beers don't use formaldehyde, but for the one- or two-kuai beers there's no choice but to add formaldehyde, since costs can't be kept down otherwise." The article also goes to the man-on-the-street, in this case a taxi driver who drinks two bottles a day, for the public's reaction: "It's depraved, what they're doing." Going to classier establishments is not going to save you, either. The Beijing News reports that the same 7-mao beer that sells for one or two kuai on the street is being repackaged and sold to bars and karaoke parlors as Corona, Budweiser, or Heineken. So, anyone for some baijiu?
Robin Good:The Personal RSS Reader And Aggregator For Everyone: Cross-Platform, Open-Source, Free RSS Wiki:记得最早是在duduwolf的blog上看到他提过“如果建立一个如‘RSS可以做的事’这样的wiki系统,我相信大多数人肯定能共同维护出一个非常棒的Rss Tips”,现在真的有人这样做了。
