这是大科学家Richard Hamming的著名讲演，于1986年在贝尔通讯研究中心给200多名Bellcore的科学家们所做。

演讲者介绍：Richard Hamming，前贝尔实验室著名计算机科学家，美国the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey教授。1968年因其在“数值方法，自动编码系统，错误检测和纠错码”方面的贡献获得图灵奖。Richard Hamming，习惯性中文译作理查德·海明，1950年发明了“海明码”，可以检验出两位错误并修正一位错误，是每个计算机专业学生的必修内容。

做大事，成大业 YOU AND YOUR RESEARCH - RICHARD HAMMING

我演讲的题目是“你和你的研究”。这不是有关研究管理方面的，而是关于你如何独自做研究的。我也可以作别的方面的专题演讲–但是不，今天是专门谈你。我不是谈什么平常的“车轱辘转”（run-of-mill）的研究，我是谈重大的研究。并且，为了描述重大的研究，我将时常要谈及相当诺贝尔奖那一类的“大事”。这和获奖不获奖无关，我指的是我们认为有重大价值的事情。如相对论，香农(Shannon) （信息理论之父，译者注）信息论，以及其他杰出的理论 —- 这就是我要讲的。

一个并不出色的本科毕业生，自冠哈佛博士头衔，把北京师范大学、浙江大学等6所高校都“骗”了。又一起学术欺诈，以“世上最牛本科生”为名最近被讨论的比较多。

欺骗当然是不对，对个人行为我觉得要谴责要追究。不过网友指责高校失察，让骗子堂而皇之混入校园，我倒觉得网友们这样的说法不完全正确。中国的学术界一般是学术少权术多，像浙大这次这样仅凭陈家忠“拥有”一些好的想法就接纳他为访问学者并提供办公地点和学术机会，那可真是伯乐级别的待遇。

我非常喜欢后续报道中一个知情人说的话：“我们并没有过多地追究他到底是不是‘哈佛’的人，因为，我们觉得背景没有关系，有想法是最重要的，毕竟是年轻人。” 这样的胸襟，不仅不应当讽刺，反而更值得喝彩。

昨天，有人在网上贴出了破解HD-DVD或是蓝光DVD内容保护所需要的一串数字，128位，然后AACS-LA，就是给DVD软硬件厂商发许可的这个机构让律师给这些网站发了信，要求他们撤下这些贴子。刚开始digg把网友推出来的贴子给关掉了，然后触发了更激烈地反抗。最后digg管理方给出了下面这段话，贴子的标题上直接就包含了这串数字：

但现在，在看了数百个贴子和成千上万个留言之后，我们觉得你们说得很清楚了。你们更愿意看着Digg在战斗中倒下，而不是看着它向一家大公司低头。我们听你的，从现在起我们不会再删除任何包含那个代码的贴子和留言，并准备处理此举可能带来的任何后果。

如果我们输了，管它呢，至少我们试过了。

感觉这段话很厉害，也是这种以用户为基础的网站所能采取的比较激烈的一招。好在他们最不济也不过上法庭输掉而后关门而已，人身上应该不会有问题，这邦家伙才会如此牛B。

这已经又引发了一个数字是否会成为非法，以及是否可以进行版权保护等话题。这和上回几年前DVD破解代码时有位牛人拿出来的那个素数还有所区别，那个素数代表了压缩后的C代码，现在这个数字还只是一个破解的基础而已。不知道这事是否会上法庭。不过反正它已经传播开来，HD/br-DVD保护内容的努力又一次失败了，在大家基本还没有看过这种光盘之前。

yesterday made web2.0 history when a massive user rebellion occured against Digg administrators removing users posting about the copyright encryption key for HD-DVD discs. the movie shows the different visualization techniques from digg labs, showing how diggers disappear along with the stories as Digg deletes them

a collection of data visualizations illustrating the monthly lists of the 100 most visited Wikipedia pages between September 2006 & January 2007. it is shown that almost 40 percent of a month’s top 100 pages are visited in all 5 months, whereas 25 percent are highly visited only in a single month.

in "category view", circular icons with colored sectors indicate which specific lists contain the same page, & their size indicates how many pages are contained in a specific combination of lists. in "cluster view", star–shaped icons at the periphery act like “magnets” that pull a page icon toward them based on the page’s list positions. in "spiral view", all pages are placed sequentially along an expanding spiral.

This notecard used to contain landmarks, but SL kept moving them around randomly, so now it contains SLURLS (Second Life URLs). You can copy them into your web browser, but there's another way that lets you stay inworld:

1. Copy the SLURL of the place
2. Paste it into chat and press Enter (or Return)
3. Open your chat history (CTRL H)
4. Click on the underlined SLURL in your chat history window
5. A Map should open with a red circle marking the place. Click the Teleport button

An alternative is to copy the SLURL into an IM.
